Crazy For Kdrama Podcast Episode 22: Cozy, Cozy Kdrama

1 Apr

We had some fun this episode — or at least we laughed a lot. Although, how that’s different from any other episode? I’m not really sure.

Show Notes
In this episode we do lots of stuff, so just listen. Just kidding! After chatting about news, what we’re watching, and how Roommate has been letting us down of late, we answer Kdrama-related questions, which have us coming almost to blows over the epic question “Super Junior or Big Bang?” and wondering which Kdrama heroine we would most want to be. Then we move over to talking about comfort watches, dramas that are our go to’s if we are sick or just want to be cheered up.

Do’s and Dont’s: Anatomy of a Good K-Kiss

24 May

Rewatching Flower Boy Ramyun Shop has made me think about exactly what goes into a really good, memorable Kdrama kiss. No, not all kisses need to be searching for ones tonsils to be hot–this is Kdrama not HBO. However, for writers out there, here a few Do’s and Don’ts on how to make your kisses memorable.

Do: Be On Cable
Cable channels seem to be a little less restrictive and a little more handsy. In turn their kisses are more realistic and hotter. Examples: Flower Boy Ramyun Shop, I Need Romance 2012, Nine.

Show Introduction: Joseon X-Files

29 Jan

joseon xfilesI have been dreading reviewing this show. Not because I didn’t like it. The show was highly stylized and was full of spooky fun. It’s just—I don’t know what it all means—was there meant to be a purpose? I think there was, I just need to work harder to find it. This will also be my second crack at trying to figure out what the hell happened in those last two minutes. Does anyone know? Seriously guys, I can’t be the only one who came away from that drama saying, “Uh…what?”

It will actually be weird rewatching Joseon X-Files. Why? Well, we’re still watching Stars Falling From the Sky for Operation Kdrama Chat, starring Kim Ji Hoon. I’m also simulcasting Flower Boy Next Door co-starring Kim Ji Hoon, and now watching Joseon X-Files starring—you guessed it—Kim Ji Hoon. I’m thinking I need to watch Love & Marriage this weekend to make it a four-shot. Continue reading

Top 5 Characters I’d Most Want to Slap

25 Jan

While watching our episodes this week with Operation: Kdrama Chat, we’ve unfortunately reached the episodes where the Evil Wannabe Girlfriend’s storyline becomes more prominent, which unfortunately also means, she gets more airtime. Which makes me cranky as I really, really hate her. Then Laurie said:

Who else would have Bitch slapped wanna be girlfriend, for the insults she was handing out, not just to K but to PJ too? Swear if my fist could reach through the computer to give her weighted bugs bunny smack…. I would have.

I was relieved as, up until that moment, I was afraid I was the only one who sometimes felt the unexplainable urge to reach out and slap a character. So with this knowledge, I realized this was the perfect subject for a Top 5 List.
Now these are not always evil characters. They are not always the villains or Big Bad Kdrama Mamas, those are a definite separate entity and therefore deserve their own list. Nope, these are characters who are so irritating, thick-headed, that the mere sight of them on your screen makes you wish you had the ability to slap the be-jeezus out of these fictional characters.

Top 5 Most Rewatched Shows

9 Oct

Be it a rainy day, or a blue mood, or just a genuine love of drama, we all have shows we go back to again and again. For us these shows may be cozy, heartwarming, or just a pick me up. We don’t necessarily have to rewatch the show from start to finish, we watch favorite parts, favorite scenes, or heck we may even just highlight reel the whole series. I personally also use these dramas when I want to watch Kdrama but don’t have time and don’t want to take the chance to get sucked into a new show. You know, because once a show has me in its clutches, I’m there until the end.

Again, like the list of Cracktastic Kdramas, these may not even be the best shows, they may not even show up on my top 5 or even top 10 list of favorite dramas. But when the urge to rewatch comes upon me, there they are, waiting.

Lofty Dreams Meet Harsh Reality

11 Sep

During the two weeks I took off from reviews, I had lofty plans. My life was going to be super busy so by taking off the time for review I was going to squeak in all sorts of things. I had big plans. Plans like, watch a new drama. I could watch a new drama and craft, right? Or rewatch a kdrama I’d already seen–there are a few shows I’ve been hankering for a rewatch–hardcore. I’d finish my City Hall review. I’d even possibly do mini-reviews of some of the movies I’d seen.

Bwahahaha! The God’s of Kdrama laughed upon me.

Unfortunately, I quickly remembered why I had to take the time off…. I had shit to do. Even more unfortunately, I’ve learned I can’t craft while watching Kdrama. Nope. While watching Kdrama my eyes must be fixed on the screen at all time. Even during a rewatch. It’s not a matter of being sucked in, although yes, Kdrama does have that effect on me. It’s the fact that I don’t speak Korean. Not even a little. WHY CAN I NOT SPEAK KOREAN? WHY!?!

Seriously, it would make my life so much easier.

Anyway, it’s not like I haven’t tried to watch things during the time that I’m not elbow deep in papier mache. Not kidding about the elbows.
Before.

It’s Not a Kdrama Until: Somebody Cheats

23 Aug

Cheaters Never Prosper, unless it’s Kdrama.

Hrm. Pet peeve of mine. Cheaters. Cheater McCheaterson. Liar, liar, pants on fire. Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m all for my hero and heroine to get together, but if they do so while the other is involved with someone else? Well that’s when my d-bag radar kicks in. I can’t help it. Its ingrained.

Now I’m not talking the love triangle, the will they-won’t they, before anyone actually becomes a couple. Before becoming coming a couple is totally different. Like as much as I didn’t care for the storyline in Flower Boy Ramyun Shop where the heroine dated both guys, I can’t count that because she was open and upfront about it. She was trying each guy on like a shoe, seeing which would fit.FBND2

I also rule out love triangle where the tempted person in the committed couple never actually goes far enough to cheat. They stay where they are, for better or worse, because of the relationship. Continue reading
