Crazy For Kdrama Podcast Episode 22: Cozy, Cozy Kdrama

1 Apr

We had some fun this episode — or at least we laughed a lot. Although, how that’s different from any other episode? I’m not really sure.

In this episode we do lots of stuff, so just listen. Just kidding! After chatting about news, what we’re watching, and how Roommate has been letting us down of late, we answer Kdrama-related questions, which have us coming almost to blows over the epic question “Super Junior or Big Bang?” and wondering which Kdrama heroine we would most want to be. Then we move over to talking about comfort watches, dramas that are our go to’s if we are sick or just want to be cheered up.

20 Mar

kwang soo 2My friends the McFeeley’s who I introduced to Running Man on my visit to Vermont, I’m happy to say are hooked. Like super hooked. So hooked in fact that now their standing Friday night is pizza and Running Man. How is that for awesome?

Their latest acquisition is a Roku box and I got the question–can we watch Running Man on this? Gladly, I hooked them up with the how to and now they are ready to go.

Jami: so excited for Running Man Friday!!!!

Stephanie: I’m excited that you’re excited!  Continue reading

Crazy For Kdrama Podcast Episode 21: Holy Holograms, Kdrama!

18 Mar

Woot! We thought for sure this episode was going to be a day late because we were really late in recording it. But thanks to the speedup button (yes, I listen to us in chipmunk voices while editing) I was able to get it edited in record time. [Cherry: Go, Stephanie, with your awesome editing skillz!]

In today’s episode, we talk about changing the way we watch Kdrama and vow to start simulcasting more by looking through a lot of the upcoming dramas, we squeee about random kpop news, and wonder who would pay to watch a hologram GDragon. Meandering, we brush on body size in Korean entertainment and the possible end of our love of Roommate.

Jackson the Ah-dorable

15 Mar

roommate season 2

If you listen to the podcast, you’ll know that there is a new Stephanie obsession in town–and his name is Jackson. Finally, after lots and lots of pressure, I finally gave in. It was more “Fine, whatever–GOSH!”

Why did I resist for so long? It’s kind of the same reason I can’t watch We Got Married. I’m cool with regular life variety like Return of Superman and challenge variety like Running Man and Barefoot Friends (you know, before it got boring) but the set up sort of variety where you have to suspend your belief that the whole thing isn’t super duper fake. I was able to push past my ugh for the first couple of episodes of the Song Jae Rim and Kim So Eun couple on We Got Married, but once I got attached, and then remember it was not real? I just couldn’t make myself watch anymore.

Does that make sense?

How does this pertain to Roommate? Well, it was the feeling I got off it and the fact that I heard that they were pushing lovelines. Ooh, awkward fake non-romances that I have to pretend to believe extend off the stage? Ummm nope. Then in season two where they actually billed it as people dealing with painful pasts? Well, I dislike that even more than the fake romances. Continue reading

Crazy For Kdrama Podcast Episode 20: Roommate, Remakes, and the End of Kdrama?

4 Mar

It’s the twentieth episode! Let’s party like it’s Episode One — you know, except for the fact that we were horribly nervous Episode One and now we are a slick podcast-making machine! Well, maybe not, but we still have fun.

For this episode, we talk about Junsu (Yes again! What can we say, his MV was released, and it is epic — how could we resist?), we squee about Stephanie’s newfound love of Roommate (well, we both squee, and Cherry rocks the ‘I told you so’), we answer a listener question regarding the sister to the sequel and spin off, the remake, then finally, we discuss the troubling news from the big three kdrama broadcasters and what that means for the future of Kdrama. Crazy For Kdrama Podcast Episode 19: Kdrama Take Down

18 Feb

It’s no surprise what we’re talking about during this episode — the takedown of Crazy. We laugh (and I… possibly cry) our way through the pretty crappy events of the last week, trying to shed light on what happened. But more than what happened, we talk about what it means for the future, and, most importantly, what you can do to protect yourselves (for the love of Mike, back up your works!). If you don’t have time to check out the podcast, or if podcasts are not your thing, Cherry has done a ton of research, and there are all sorts of informative links in the notes below. And as a reward, after blogging class we do talk about dramas and then end on a “Who Would You!”

RunningMan Catchith On

1 Feb

Running Man 26I did it guys, I did it! As previously mentioned, my big plan for my trip to Vermont was to introduce my friends the McFeeley’s to Korean Food and, most importantly, Running Man. One went over a lot better than the other and I’ll allow you to guess which one was which.

Luckily, my friends love me and were open to whatever I wanted to do…the things you can get away with when you haven’t seen people for over a year.

I started out the night with a table full of Korean food. Or more to the point, I hauled the ingredients for a table of Korean food from New York City to Vermont. (Yes, I remembered 2 different types of kimchi and yet only packed 3 shirts and one pair of socks, priorities people, priorities.) I wish I’d gotten more pictures as it was all almost very photogenic, but at that point I’d been cooking and chopping for hours and was simply spent.  Continue reading

Crazy For Kdrama Podcast Episode 17: Kdrama Film School

21 Jan

Bet you guys didn’t think we could beat last week’s guest- and drama-packed doubleheader episode — and you’d be right! Just kidding. While Cherry and I were both sick and tired, we managed to chat for way longer than we had space for.

Help Me Choose A Running Man!

9 Jan

running man 3

Ding-dong! This week is dead! Which old week? This old week! Ugh. My schedule got crazy and with the recording, rerecording, editing and reordering of the podcast, extra work to get ready for my trek up to VT–I’ve missed you guys!

Speaking of Vermont! All this toil and stress has totally been worth it because I didn’t get to go home during the holidays and I have a hankering for some love and affection from family-like friends. Why do I mention this? As any good Kentertainment fan–I completely plan to inflict my obsession upon them. Come on–I haven’t seen them in over a year–so they can’t complain about me trying to force it on them all the time, right???

Bwahahaha…. Continue reading

Son Ye Jin–Stop Salking Me!

18 Dec

pirates 19I can’t tell you how many times I’ve laughed through My Chilling Romance or wept through A Moment To Remember. As a not super lover of Korean Movies, they both rank up within my top 10. My Chilling Romance is funny, and scary, and super romantic all in one sweep. A Moment To Remember is crazy romantic, showing within just two hours the creation of one of the best couples, before ripping it all away, dashing you to tears. Both movies have high production values, are well written and very well acted.

It wasn’t until just now, like two years later, that I realized–Son Ye Jin is actually the heroine in both dramas. This might be old hat news to you, but for me? That old hat was blown from my head. I know, I know, you’re probably like–how did you not know this? Did you watch both movies with your eyes closed? To which I say–yes, yes I always make it a habit of watching subtitled movies with my eyes closed–learning Korean by osmosis. Continue reading
