I Am Ashamed

30 Sep

One of the things we as Kdrama fans have to deal with on almost a daily basis in our real lives (not here on the internetz, as here online, especially if you are savvy enough to find blogs like this you are among friends) are the side looks, the “what the?”s, and sometimes, if your really lucky, pointed and sneering looks or comments about your Kdrama obsession.

People just don’t get it.

And for the most part, that’s okay, there was a time when we didn’t get it either. When we stumbled on Kdrama or Kpop and had our own “what the?” expressions on our faces. As much as we all know now how awesome it is and how much everyone’s lives would be better–or at least more fulfilled–if they kdrama a chance, we, when we step back a bit, can understand their initial questions.   Continue reading

My Hero, Molly Who Saved CNBlue

15 Aug
mollyIf you listen to the podcast, you’ve probably already listened to this story, but since podcasts are not everyone’s cup of tea, and this story is just so awesome, it’s coming in again. I’d like you to meet my friend Molly. Molly, is a superhero. Not kidding, a real life super hero who saved my whole concert experience.
Molly is a brand new addition to the kdrama/kpop world, and she has fallen hard. Super hard. From zero to addict in approximately 3 minutes. Molly is actually a friend of Cherry’s and when she learned we were going to KCON, it didn’t take much (or any) arm twisting to get her to agree to join us. In the days leading up to it, we were mostly excited for CNBLue, BTS, and then of course GDragon. But the main one we all agreed on was CNBlue as, I don’t know if you’re a fan of CNBlue, but here’s the thing, they are good on albums, but when you go to see them live, they take their songs and ROCK OUT. It’s almost like a completely different experience and is amazing.

Pride Review. (Spoilers. Big Love. Big Rants.)

4 Mar

pride2This is the first time I’ve done a review for a drama without more pomp and circumstance. I just can’t stop thinking about it. I was chatting last night with Cherry Cordial and Thea and when I told them about it, I basically hijacked the entire conversation with my rants. That’s when the thought struck me. Dur. This needs a post. Stat. (Stat being actually two weeks ago when I first started writing this post. I’m such a slacker…)

Completely by accident, I spent this weekend watching Japanese dramas. Now if you know me you’ll know I’m not a huge fan of the J-dramas, so the fact that I found one I enjoyed so much was a complete surprise. However, the fact that I loved the first part of the drama and hated the last few episodes? This, unfortunately, did not surprise me. What up, J-dramas? Why you got to be like that?

But the thing is, when I went to go put a rating for Pride on my Mydramalist, I was torn. As much as I hated where the story went, I loved the beginning just as much. Can I discount the ending for the beginning? Or the other way around?

I get ahead of myself.
Lets take the drama in two parts, so I can squee my head off before getting to the hair pulling. Continue reading

Dear B-Leads, Wannabe Girlfriends, and other General Assorted Hangers-On

31 Jan

I’ve seen you and your like hanging around with too much of an abundance of late, and I think it’s time we have a little talk. I’m afraid to be the one to tell you this, but here it goes. No one likes you. I’m sorry, but it’s true. As it’s clear none of you are going to succeed in whatever harebrained schemes you’ve concocted to ensnare our hero or heroine, you should just stop. You and your inability to get over yourselves is making us hate you.

Musical Monday: The Piggy Dolls Edition

10 Sep

I just got cranky. Big cranky. Why? Well, first you have to read this post I originally wrote for a Musical Monday post. It’s just a random song I found through a post on Soompi:

Hey! It’s a girl group who I don’t hate! Actually, that sounds bad. It’s not like I hate girl groups, I just don’t usually care for them very much. On this song, while I don’t love-love the song itself, I do love the message. So when you watch it, make sure to have the English subs turned on. The song is about a girl telling her boyfriend that she’s an ordinary girl, no matter how much she tries to change for him, it wasn’t going to change the person who she was underneath. And she likes who she is underneath, and if he he didn’t–well that was too bad. She’s okay realizing she’s just a regular person and knows there’s nothing wrong with that. And in the end? She finds a guy who likes her just the way she is.

How many of us could learn this lesson?

The song itself starts out really slow and I almost didn’t make it through, but once it hits the chorus the pace picks up and it loses that dreaded R&B beat. I think it kind of fits with the song though. At the beginning it’s like she’s asking him to still like her, apologizing to him for not being what he wants her to be, but as the pace picks up, she gets some sass and defiance.

Piggy Dolls (that’s an unfortunate name) Ordinary girl

Seems pretty straightforward right? That’s what I thought first too. Then the comments on the on the Youtube page caught my eye: Continue reading

Stephanie Whines About Extensions

I-Hear-Your-Voice

Nooo!!! Why are you doing this to me? *Whine followed by poutyface* I Can Hear Your Voice was extended by two episodes?

Look. I’m sure you’re very popular. And I’m sure you’ll fill these extra two episodes with the necessary twists and turns. But I find this to be completely unacceptable! Why? I really, really want to watch this show! And this extension will mean that’s at least one more week before I get to start it.
Un. Fair. I haven’t been this cranky since DramaFever spoiled one of the main plots. Okay—this is an exaggeration. Clearly I’m not upset by the extension—I am however still po’ed by the spoiler. Hey! Here’s a tip. If you’re going to do a spoiler in order to promote your club post—let a girl know! Toss in a: Spoilers or a DON’T LOOK HERE IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW EXACTLY WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN. Revenge is a dish served best with a Bwahaha! Or: How Irony rears it’s ugly head.

25 Jun

resistance is futile So, a few months ago I posted a little tale about my Blue Hat of Rantyness. A post where I railed against the rampant mockery Kdrama fans are subjected to.

–Quick recap–I learned there were some people I know talking crap about my kdrama addiction and the time I spend on the blog. Oh. And implied the only reason I wanted to move was so I could catch myself a Korean husband.

You know–all good stuff.

I got lots of great comments where we all commiserated with each other, sharing your own tales of jerkwaditude.

Well here’s a fun little update for you. When I learned this information, I knew I couldn’t keep this to myself–it’s almost like this is a win for all of us. Continue reading

What the Fudge, TDrama, What the Fudge?

28 Mar

cant hear you
Last night I was minding my own business, looking for something to watch in order to avoid going to bed, (you know, as any good Kdrama addict does) and landed on Office Girls. After enjoying Autumn’s Concerto, I’ve been looking forward to trying a new TDrama.

So there I was, knee deep in the first episode and something starting niggling my brain, then as it went on, that niggle grew and grew until my teeth began to grit.

What was bothering me so much? Continue reading

Blue Hat Of Rantiness Or Stephanie’s Plan To Get A Man

19 Mar

angrycatPlease excuse me while I wear my self-righteous, indignant ranty hat for a while. And for anyone who’s wondering, it’s blue, and I look quite fetching in it.

So you know how we’re all a little bit obsessive about kdrama, right? And if you don’t think you’re obsessive, well, I hate to break it to you, but you’re sitting wherever you are reading an article on Kdrama that you found on the internet–welcome to my brand of crazy.

But I’m here to say there’s nothing wrong with that. There’s nothing wrong with finding something you enjoy and putting forth effort to immerse yourself in it. Just because our obsession of choice happens to be Korean entertainment, it doesn’t mean that ours is any less relevant or more laughable than others.

My Name is Stephanie Kurze and I am a Kdrama fan. I’m not going to be embarrassed about it. Nor am I going to be embarrassed for the amount of time I spend watching, listening, or writing about this.

What brought this particular rant on? Continue reading
