Musical Monday: Stephanie’s Kpoptastic Playlist Edition

2 Feb

Stephanies Kpoptastic playlistIf you don’t listen to the podcast (first off, why are you not? We’re delightful!) you missed my (again, delightful) story about how I’ve become friends with the Korean guy who works at the Korean market around the corner from my house (dude! I live in a place now that has a Korean vegetable market around the corner–sometimes it still blows my mind). Anyway this guy–who is probably one of the friendliest people I’ve met in all of my time here–only works there a couple of times a week and I’ve been trying to figure out a way to weasel my love of Korean whatnots into the conversation without me bursting out:

I LOVE KOREAN EVERYTHING!!!

Ahem. I don’t think that’s something I can come back from. About a month ago, it finally happened. It started with an innocent comment about kimchi, and the flood gates were open. You watch Korean movies and TV? YES!!! I do! I love it! Since then whenever I pop in we have snippets of Korean centered conversation (it’s actually a super busy shop so it we can’t say much). FTISLAND IS COMING!

18 Dec

FTISLAND 1Besides the Junsu show here in New York, which happened before I moved here, there is one other show which makes me all pouty that I missed–and that was the CNBlue and FTIsland double headder. Although to be honest its the Junsu one which keeps me up at night, wracked in tears and sobs over the missed opportunity. Me and McThrusty in the same room? *Swoon* Oh right, and the time Nell played in NY. I’d kill to see Nell play in real life.

But the CNBlue, FTIsland is a close third.

Anyway, after that unfortunate event where I was on one side of the country and the two bands I currently loved (It was early in my Kpop fandom) were playing on the other, I have managed to see CNBlue twice in concert, once last year at the Best Buy theater where, despite my craptastic seat, they were freaking awesome, and the second being at KCon. Now all that’s left is FTIsland.

And now they are coming here. Continue reading

Musical Monday: The Nell Edition

SQUEEEE! Nell is back! It’s like my birthday and Christmas rolled into one!

I’ve made no secret of my love, no, my adoration of the band Nell. On Friday I was standing in line at the copier at Staples waiting for the lady in front of me to print, what seemed like, every page of every newspaper she’s ever read, when I pulled out my phone to kill time on Youtube. And there it was. The sneak peek teaser of a new Nell song and the news that they would be releasing the new song before the drop of their next release.

I literally squealed. Out loud. In Staples, In New York City. Yeah, I’ll never get that dignity back….

As for the song, it is, of course Nell gold. However, I am a little surprised that this is the song that the band chose to lead with–usually the first song released as a MV, is one of their more powerful tunes, with the full band full-on rocking it out. With this new (I’m not sure if it’s going to be a mini album or a full CD, but considering we just got a full CD last year, I’m guessing it’s just going to be a few songs) release, they decided to brush off the softer side of Nell and kick it off with a ballad. As Nell is one of the few bands who I like both sides of their coin, I don’t mind, I’m just hoping we have something bigger to come.

Crazy for Kdrama Podcast Episode 13: Kpop Wishes and Kdrama Dreams

19 Nov

Thirteen? Is it unlucky thirteen? We certainly hope not! In response to a voicemail, Cherry and I try to disagree more — or maybe that was just me — and just wait until you hear how many dramas I made my way through the last two weeks.

NO JUDGEMENTS!

Musical Monday: The Younha Edition

13 Oct

younhaPart 2 to Stephanie trying to get more girls here on the blog!

I randomly clicked on this link after an article said Younha was making her comback. I vaguely remembered knowing who she was and liking her music so I gave it a chance. My first thought was meh, ballad. Then it moved to hey, I guess this isn’t too bad. But all the while I was struck by something–my third thought–she’s like the female Nell. I mean, this song sounds exactly like a Nell song. And since I’m a giant Nell fan, I’d be the one who’d be able to say this. Continue reading

Musical Monday: The Infinite Edition

16 Sep

Very exciting news on the musical front guys! The first Kpop band I’ll see as an official city dweller has been decided. It’s Infinite! What made me decide on Infinite as my inaugural showing? Well. Yeah. They were the first ones to schedule anything in New York.

So I don’t really know anything about Infinite besides the fact that 1) one of members, L, was in Shut Up Flower Boy Band and more recently on Barefoot Friends and 2) they share the same company as my favorite band, Nell. And Nell says that Infinite is hands down the moneymakers of the company.

I guess it’s time to bone up on my Infinite knowledge then, huh? Although, I have to say, whether I like them or not, I’m going to go to that concert. It’s the principal of the thing. My first–lookee what I can do!

As right now I’m mid move, it makes some of the stress go away, like a big signal which says “You’re making the right decision!” Actually–a bigger signal would have been if Nell themselves were playing.

But lets not quibble.

Musical Monday: The Zitten Edition

28 Jul

Screenshot 2014-07-27 at 4.05.53 PMAs you can tell, Musical Monday is still floating around the land of Kindie. This performer though, I did not find on my own, it was actually recommended to me by a new Korean friend. As we have very similar tastes in Kmusic, I asked him to suggest some things for me, and this, by far, was my favorite as it has a very Nell feeling to it.

And I do like my Nell. Continue reading

Musical Monday: The Nell Edition

Nell 4Nell has done it again. But did I ever doubt them? Um. Yeah, that would be a no. I love so many of their songs and their videos that my loving this would pretty much be a slam dunk. However, I didn’t realize how amazing this would be.
The song itself, is very pretty. So lovely, and I’m happy that it isn’t suffering from the same sickness some of their other songs have suffered from since joining Woollim Entertainment. Autotune-itice. The lead singer’s (I really need to learn the names of all the members of the band—it’s the least I can do for them) voice is so strong, it doesn’t need the electronic trickery and synthesizing—so whenever I do hear it, it actually makes me angry. Why mess with a good thing?
