Crazy For Kdrama Podcast Episode 18: Kdrama’s Sequels and Spinoffs

4 Feb

Episode 18 is up! Not only is it up, but due to internet issues, we don’t run as long as we usually do — great news for those of you who think we talk to much — and for those of you who like our length — don’t worry, I’m sure we’ll be back to normal next time.

Netflix: Trials and Tribulations

2 Feb

netflixAs a Kdrama fan, I have a love-hate relationship with Netflix. Out of all of the online services I feel like we can all agree that they have the best player. Their website always works smoothly, subs stay exactly where they need to be and are easy to read, and their device platforms work just as well. Yay! Netflix, right?

Also on the good side is that they have a collection of Korean dramas. Not only have a collection of Korean dramas, but recognize the genre’s up and coming popularity and have given it it’s own sorting tab. Come on! Isn’t that sound proof that the secret is out on Kdramas and that we are well on our way to building this hallyu wave bigger and bigger? We can point it out to our friends–look, Kdrama isn’t so weird, it’s right there on Netflix!

All of these are good things, however, there is the inevitable downside. The selection. Since Kdrama’s first arrival on Netflix I’ve witnessed their selection get stale and then slowly, ever so slowly, start to dwindle.

Top Five Favorite Couples of 2014

15 Jan

Graphic favorite couplesWhat do we want? Couples! When do we want them? RIGHT NOW! Seriously, if you don’t fork over good couples, we are fully prepared to riot in the streets. Think I’m joking? Go ahead and try us.

Good couples make me happy. Good couples can go a long way to making a bad drama better or by making a good drama just that much better. Seriously, not kidding, I’ve stuck it through many the bad drama because I’ve loved the couple (one of them being on this very list). What goes into a good couple? Well, good writing, acting, and most especially chemistry between the two actors.

Here’s my list of Top 5 favorite couples of 2014: Continue reading

Crazy For Kdrama Podcast: Episode 16A: 2014 Kdrama Roundtable

7 Jan

Finally, finally, after much blood, sweat and swears, is the end-of-the-year wrap up of the Crazy For Kdrama Podcast! Due to several technical issues, we had to record twice, and due to all the dramas we needed to discuss, the show has been split into two separate episodes. Hopefully both of them equally good — although the second one (tomorrow) might be better because that’s where we announce the winner of the Kim Soo Hyun calender.

Musical Monday: The Illionare Edition

29 Dec

Oh yeah, Monday night and I’m just now posting Musical Monday–what can I say? I’ve spent the entire weekend cramming in as much Kdrama as I possibly could. I swear after this project is done I’m going to need a good break–or at least that what my butt tells me I need to do.

So, in the terms of kdrama watching, I’m literally unable to multi-task unless that other task is randomly chatting with friends on Facebook Messenger about the current drama I’m watching. (Ask Cherry Cordial about some panicked late night texts as I was watching It’s Okay, That’s Love…) so long story short, no multi-tasking means a very late Musical Monday.
Not to mention–I think I’m running a little dry on the Kpop well. I see in the very near future I’m going to be spending some quality time with Youtube and spreadsheets.
In the pinch, I was reminded of this song that I have actually listened to a bunch of times but never mentioned it–probably because it doesn’t have a video–but you guys won’t mind a MV less song, right? I love the beat of this song the song itself reminds me of some of my favorite MIB songs–I’m sure people who enjoy the harder sound like Illionare would scoff at my comparison–but there it is.
I’ve also been aware of Illionare as he’s worked with Bobby on a song and since I’m a little obsessed with Bobby…. note was taken.
As I write this I’m hunkered down at the Starbucks listening to the song on repeat and I can’t stop my head from bobbing in time to the music–especially the chorus. As I’m wearing a giant scarf and poofy earmuffs, it’s quite a sight but it’s a mark as to how much I like the song to say, go ahead and stare, I couldn’t stop if I wanted too.

Superstar Super Comback? Plus A Bonus Giveaway!

16 Oct

Kim soo hyunWell, with a now wide string of successes in his wake, Kim Soo Hyun seems to have firmly planted himself on the superstar list.

Now if only I could make myself finish You from another star….

Anyway, turns out that he is now beginning to think of his next project, and word on the K-street is that it may be a drama (yay) written by the same writer of Sungkyunkwan Scandal (yay) about a doctor with a multiple personality disorder. (Ya….um wait a minute…what?).

So close to being something I wanted to watch! The drama, Dr Frankenstein, seems to be a weird take on the story. Isn’t that more of a Dr Jekyll, Mr Hyde thing? Oh, right, but that story is already on the fast track to air later this year as Hyun Bin’s return to drama vehicle.  Continue reading
