Pass the Orange Marmalade, Please!

27 Feb

monster boy

This week I was lucky enough to be able to see Yeo Jin Gu in Hwayi: Monster Boy. I’ve known Yeo Jin Gu was an up and coming young actor, I’d even heard he was worthy of the title and not your typical, idol turned wannabe actor. I’d just never had the chance to see him in action before.

Heh.

I was really blown away by his acting skills! So when word was released that he’d signed onto a lead in an upcoming drama? Woot! Internal happy dance. Don’t get me wrong, for the most part, I don’t have anything against idol actors if they can, you know, act–but isn’t it refreshing when we get someone who is, off the bat, exceptional at his job?  Continue reading

Crazy For Kdrama Podcast Episode 17: Kdrama Film School

21 Jan

Bet you guys didn’t think we could beat last week’s guest- and drama-packed doubleheader episode — and you’d be right! Just kidding. While Cherry and I were both sick and tired, we managed to chat for way longer than we had space for.

Crazy For Kdrama Podcast Episode 11: Kdrama’s Second Season

22 Oct

Episode 11! I’m trying so hard to make these shorter — it’s possible I’m fighting a losing battle. I literally cut 45 minutes from this episode. What can I say, Cherry and I are chatty, chatty, chatty. I’m so excited to actually be able to contribute something to the ‘what we’re watching’ section — it’s possible the anticipated shame of announcing I hadn’t seen anything made me sit down and watch something. So, yay!

Superstar Super Comback? Plus A Bonus Giveaway!

16 Oct

Kim soo hyunWell, with a now wide string of successes in his wake, Kim Soo Hyun seems to have firmly planted himself on the superstar list.

Now if only I could make myself finish You from another star….

Anyway, turns out that he is now beginning to think of his next project, and word on the K-street is that it may be a drama (yay) written by the same writer of Sungkyunkwan Scandal (yay) about a doctor with a multiple personality disorder. (Ya….um wait a minute…what?).

So close to being something I wanted to watch! The drama, Dr Frankenstein, seems to be a weird take on the story. Isn’t that more of a Dr Jekyll, Mr Hyde thing? Oh, right, but that story is already on the fast track to air later this year as Hyun Bin’s return to drama vehicle.  Continue reading

The Next Big Deal

19 Feb
Sheee’s back! And apparently this time—she’s going to be bigger than ever. The buzz around the water cooler is that the ink hasn’t even dried on the last episode of Heirsand Kim Eun Suk, the mega hit maker has already signed onto her next drama. And it’s going to be a big one.
Now there was one time where I would have been completely thrilled by this news.  After watchingA Gentleman’s Dignity I honestly thought Kim Eun Suk was my favorite writers—but then I started seeing more of her other work—Secret Garden, which, yes, lots of people love, and while I didn’t hate it, I had some problems with it. After watching On Airmy esteem sank more. And thenHeirshappened. This has all forced me to even remove the rose colored glasses, look deep into the heart of A Gentleman’s Dignity and admit to its flaws as well.
The bloom is off this rose.

Age of Feeling Hinky

18 Feb
age of feelingAnyone know what the heck is going on with Age of Feeling? Not that I was watching it, but the buzz it was getting, I was pretty close. People are saying really positive things about the drama, Kim Hyun Joong’s improved acting skills, and from what I hear—what’s her face is not as irritating as she was in Bridal Mask.
Not to say I’ve warmed to the idea of her being the lead.

netflixIt has come to our attention that Netflix has uploaded some new kdrama for your perusal. Now, while it’s not like I can’t watch these somewhere else (as they are sourced by DramaFever and Viki) this is still pretty exciting. It has been forever and eight days since Netflix has added new shows and not only that, they’ve also have dropped a few series. I was afraid that this was a bad sign,  perhaps Kdrama wasn’t popular for them and and, in turn, they were going to drop the line.
But new stuff is in! Check out this link here.

The Power of the Promotional Poster

9 Jul

swordandtheflower

Is this me or is this a really successful poster? Before I caught a glimpse of this poster on Pinterest, I didn’t have any interest in this drama at all. Basically all I knew about it was that there was an upcoming drama and it’s called Sword and Flower. From the title I inferred that it’s a saeguk and I just don’t watch them. Thinking back in my drama history I’ve only seen 3 Sungkyungkwan Scandal, Faith, and Joseon X-Files. With Faith and Joseon X-Files being fusion, do they really count? Oh, I did also watch Bridal Mask, but is that still considered a saeguk? Does the term saeguk infer a particular time period or any drama which takes place in a time period that’s not now. In which case, Giant, which takes place in the 70’s would be a saeguk and that doesn’t seem right.

But then as I was trolling Pinterest (as I do) and I came across this poster. Continue reading

Happy Birthday Ryu Deok Hwan

How funny is it that Ryu Deok Hwan’s Birthday lands on a day we’re discussing God’s Quiz over at Operation: Kdrama Chat?
He’s 26 today which surprises me and yet doesn’t. He has a big filmography and has some crazy acting skills (which makes me think he’s older), but there is still a young air about him.

Plea to the God’s of Kdrama V

15 Mar

Since we’ve had a banner week of wishing for things this week, I figured it’s way past time to drag out our Plea to the God’s of Kdrama series. Looking at our last go around, we got 1 of four of our wishes. Hrm. Not great. However, looking at the wishing scoreboard, we’re at about a 50% success rate. WIN!

So what are we wishing here this time over at Crazy?

Ojakgyo BrothersOjakgyo-Brothers-2
I’ve heard really good things about this show! Actually, I haven’t heard anything bad about it. What I haven’t heard? Any of the big 3 getting it so I can easily watch without giving my computer a dreaded social disease. Come on, for something which is apparently so popular, there’s no reason why one of the big 3 (VIki, DramaFever, Hulu) shouldn’t get this. Continue reading
